Francisco Garcés,(Missionary Priest) a Spanish Franciscan friar and explorer, documented his travels through the colonial Viceroyalty of New Spain in "On the Trail of a Spanish Pioneer." His extensive exploration of the southwestern region of North America, encompassing Sonora, Baja California, Arizona, and California, provides insight into the history and geography of these areas. Sadly, he and his fellow friars were tragically killed during a Native American uprising, and have been recognized as martyrs by the Catholic Church.
