In black blind stamped boards, with gilt illustration of ship on front board, and gilt titles to spine. Boards are slightly rubbed.  Pages lightly foxed. An important historical account of the post-war voyages of the USS Congress. Frontispiece portrait of Commodore Stockton, plus four color plates. Howes' C624 makes this the first issue as it has printed endpapers (advertisements); these are blank endpapers in later issues. Small previous owner name and date to front.
