Message... President ... US ... Letter of Secretary of Interior with draught of bill to forfeit certain lands granted to Oregon for wagon roads ... March 20, 1888. (384 pp + map)

Map is highly detailed, partly topographical. It is an important map in that it shows the routes and the limits of lands claimed by three wagon road companies: Willamette Valley and Cascade Mountain Wagon Road Co., The Dalles Military Road Co., Oregon Central Military Road Co. The federal legislation, and subsequent state legislation in the mid 1860s that gave these companies 6 sections of land per mile along these roads probably caused more grief for eastern Oregon settlers than any in history.

Note: The report to which this map is accompaniment is one of the most important print documents in eastern Oregon history. It contains the depositions of hundreds of individuals who settled along these road routes, depositions in which they recount their settlement history.
